GROUNDED IN CREATION-CENTERED SPIRITUALITY
Based on ancient practices, creation-centered spirituality combines mysticism, spiritual activism and the practice of honoring all of creation as holy gift. Free of dogma, creation-centered spirituality is a way of living with deep awe, gratitude and reverence for all life...every creature, every tree, every rock, every river, every mountain.
Creation-centered spirituality makes room for the wisdom of indigenous traditions, where Earth is known as a living relative, full of spirit and presence. It resonates with Celtic and pagan paths that honor the sacred in the rhythms of nature: the turning seasons, the elements, the land itself. It welcomes those who find their spirituality through direct relationship with Earth, without needing to name that experience within any one tradition.
Honoring some of the practices put forth by Matthew Fox, a theologian who brought the concept of Creation Spirituality -- a beautiful more Christian-based version of creation-centered spirituality -- to the modern western world, Jubilee!'s Sunday Celebrations follow four Vias, seasonal themes focused on the beauty, mystery and cosmological spirituality of creation. These paths lead the community on journeys of meditation, love, social justice and learning that resonate with each quarter.
Via Transformativa takes place in the spring, the time of natural resurrection, new life springing forth from the Earth, and from within us as well. Via Positiva happens during the summer months, inspiring us to discover beauty and awe in each other, in ourselves, and in the fascinating natural world around us. Via Negativa, the fall season, is a time of letting go, and despite its name, it is also a time of celebration as we contemplate the mysteries that surround us, from the black holes of the universe to the nature of our own souls. From the apparent dormancy of the winter months, Via Creativa calls us to explore the imagination and creativity that underlie all of creation at every moment.
