Meets the third Monday of each month at 5:45 pm for a meal and meeting

The Jubilee! Board consists of Jubilant's who are elected by our community for three-year terms.
The Board serves the Jubilee! community by:

  • holding the vision of the Jubilee! community and upholding its values,
  • listening to the wants and needs of the community as a whole,
  • reaching a consensus when there are differences about how we should proceed,
  • responding to the community’s wishes in a manner that is respectful and congruent with Jubilee’s values,
  • effectively communicating our decisions back to the community,
  • honoring this process, giving it the opportunity to work, enjoying our time together and treating one another with compassion and respect,
  • maintaining a connection with every Jubilee! team,
  • being fully accountable for all we do, including our fiscal responsibilities and
  • keeping the main thing the main thing.

Roger Beaumont

I’ve been around for almost 74 years, so this may take more than a few words. I am Canadian born of US parents, grew up in Maine and worked 38 years in education in Florida until I retired to NC 12 years ago.

Since then I have gone through all kinds of transformations: married 42 years, 4 children, 17 grand children, 1 great grand child; divorced 6 years ago after discovering my true sexual orientation. Hello. Though this all started long before I started coming to Jubilee 5 years ago, I believe that Jubilee gifted me with the courage and the joy of accepting my life as it is…almost like one of Howard’s beautiful baptism rituals…finally able to let Roger be who he is. Thank God for Jubilee! Of course now you will probably hear a lot more about my latest passion for end of life issues such as home funerals and green burials.

My wife and I moved to Asheville in 1990 after an eight year stint in San Francisco. We opened a restaurant on Pack Square and enjoyed eight wonderful years watching downtown transform to the vibrancy we see today. With the birth of our second son in 1998, we stepped away from the business and I began a new career in real estate.

I discovered Jubilee! somewhat through the back door. Several of our staff rented rooms at Hanger Hall and Howard would often consult soon to be couples at our café. I learned of a community that was built on love and tolerance and that we are all, spiritually, part of something far greater. Oddly, this was the same message that I often received from my World War II, depression era, strictly raised, Catholic father. Still, it wasn’t until 2003 I started attending Jubilee! and actually joined last year. I have been very active in this community including work with YMCA youth programs as well as tutoring and mentoring at a local elementary school. I look forward to bringing these same efforts to Jubilee!.

Dave Charlton: Board Chair

I am the son of the son of a preacher man, growing up in the Methodist church in North Carolina and Virginia. After a career climbing the corporate ladder I jumped off and joyfully landed in Asheville 6+ years ago. My wife and I were anxious to get back to the mountains and closer to her family, kids, and grandkids, most of whom now live here in Asheville. I’m currently self-employed and still work in the corporate world, and love working at home, communing with the woods and my local bear friends.

I was introduced to Jubilee! some 5 years ago and I fell in love immediately. I was drawn in by the music, the Celebration, and ultimately the spirit of the community. Thank- fully, I was also drawn to the Spiritual Journey Team as part of my quest to deepen my spiritual life and connect at a deeper level. I’ve been very active in bringing many of the external and internal speakers and workshops to Jubilee! over the last several years.  I’m also active with the Circles of Care – North which also spawned a secret team called Team Unhinged (you know who you are) that put on a “Rockin” dance and is “on call” for the next FUN opportunity. I look forward to bringing my energy and enthusiasm to the Jubilee Community! that has given so much to me.

I moved to Asheville in 1983 from too many previous locations to list. Growing up in the suburbs of Chicago my father was my strong spiritual teacher. His hobby was studying as many different religions as he could cram into one life time. He managed to instill in my two older brothers and me that all religion has a common thread that weaves them together. Each person may be called to a different thread but there is indeed a common element. We were raised with the diversity of many faiths, and when I attended the first service at Jubilee! in August of 1989, I felt that sense of joy my father had given me: inclusiveness. I have been involved with the Jubilee! Community ever since, serving on numerous teams and as co-leader of the outreach team with my husband, Paul Muller, and Becky Polonsky for the past 10 years. Being on the Jubilee! Board as a “stand in” has taught me many important lessons...The “Main Thing” for me is that Howard’s message reaches our community; and then our community puts those words into practice, not only in Asheville but all over the world. The word is love.

I have been moving toward Jubilee! for much of my adult life, and finally arrived about two and half years ago. Recognizing home immediately, I became a regular attender, started volunteering for various projects like Room in the Inn, Concierge, greeter, coordinating North Circle of Care, etc. and even danced in Barrie Barton’s most recent extravaganza. I am fortunate to reside in Weaverville in an old house with a nice deck and view.  I live with a great dog, Mac, a Siberian Husky who is going blind, and my wonderful partner, Mark, a North Carolina Dukie, who is going back and forth to Durham and who also calls Jubilee! home. Like many Jubilants I have worked on projects designed to bring about greater justice and peace to our world, and to foster greater charity. I love the strong sense of community that is Jubilee! and the atmosphere that nurtures creativity and acceptance here. I work as the Regional Executive for the American Red Cross in WNC, and have too many years of experience in organizational management and development, and have served on many Boards. Oh Yeah!

I am almost a native of Western North Carolina, having moved as a young child from New York to Hendersonville. At that time Hendersonville was really the South, and the mountains were really Appalachia. I started life out as an Irish Catholic living in the Bible Belt. I lived many different places and did many different things between the time I left for college in New York City and moved back to Asheville 19 years ago.  I attended an Episcopalian church with my children for a time, but that didn’t really suit me, and I am happy that I have now found my home at Jubilee!. My son is a regular participant with the teen group, and I am grateful for his connection with that group. My daughter, a graduate of Hanger Hall School, is on her way to Guilford College in Greensboro but remains a committed Episcopalian. (What can you do about kids?)

I am a working attorney/divorced/single mother with many outside distractions, including doing what I still can to take care of two teenagers, supporting the right social issues, and learnint to express my own creativity.  I love Jubilee!, it's combination of solidity and quirkiness, and knowing it is truly full of people with whom I can be myself.

When I attended Camp Greystone in Tuxedo, NC, as a young girl, I was aware that the Asheville area and these mountains were where my spirit and Mother Earth connected -- a sacred space of growth and healing. I returned to live in Asheville in 2001 and began a time of personal transformation and expansion. As a psychotherapist, I participated in a grant bringing mental health services to patients at Buncombe County Health Center and then moved to MAHEC Women’s Clinic where I am in Behavioral Medicine – teaching residents and providing mental health care to pregnant women. I also facilitate support groups for women experiencing cancer and for caregivers of family members dealing with cancer.

Soon after moving to Asheville that synergy of Jubilee! drew me into the dance and the deeper experiences of the Spiritual Journey Team – thanks to our Judy Bennett! I have been active in coordinating with presenters and workshops for Jubilee! through the Spiritual Journey Team for the last few years. At Jubilee! I have been able to follow my Buddhist, Native American, Divine Feminine and pagan paths – all parts of us are welcomed and honoured.

It is with great pleasure, joy and excitement that I begin this opportunity to give back and serve Jubilee! .

Becky Polonsky

My family and I moved to Asheville in 1990 seeking a wonderful place to raise our two children – and we certainly found it! After many years of attending a traditional Methodist Church while the children were growing up, we suddenly found ourselves in a “spiritual rut.” In 2002, a friend suggested that we try Jubilee! and from the first Sunday we walked through the doors, Tom and I knew that we had found our place! I have been involved with the Outreach Team for four years and regularly participate with Room in The Inn. I love the vibrant and diverse celebrations, the energy exuded by Jubilants and the outreach to the community. Being part of the Outreach Team has confirmed to me that Jubilants coming together by giving time, money and gifts can have a tremendous impact on the lives of so many people and organizations. The ripple effect is amazing.

Professionally, I am a relationship manager with a community bank serving the Hendersonville/Fletcher area. Tom and I live in Arden; our daughter, Katie, works with the Federation of American Scientists in Washington, DC, and, our son, Joey is spending the summer involved with an HIV/AIDS education program in Honduras. I am honored to serve on the Board and contribute to the path that Jubilee! will follow.

Edel Seay

As a native of Asheville, I grew up attending a small Methodist Church on Haywood St. After working for Asheville City Schools for 32 years I am pleased to be retired and to feel that I have the time and energy needed to serve on the Board at Jubilee! I have been committed to this community since the beginning, and I am deeply grateful for the friendships, love, and care I have received here. Jubilee! makes my heart sing, and I want to give back to the community that has been so important to me for the past 20 years. This community, more than any other I have ever been a part of, makes me know that the only important thing is to jump into the river of life and swim for all you're worth! I love the Jubilee! community, its philosophy and aspiration to make the world a better place for all, through living in love. I feel that my retirement now gives me the opportunity to participate on the Jubilee! board in a thoughtful manner, free of the frenzy I felt when I had a real job! After all, when you're a retired teacher, every day's a snow day!

I was not going to church or to volunteer for anything for a year when my husband and I moved to Asheville in December 2004. Then I walked into the circle of my first Jubilee! service in May 2005 and knew I found a good thing. All sorts of people got up and shared things. I don’t remember what they were, but I remember what I felt. Accepted. It didn’t have to be me up there because I knew it could be and I would be accepted. The expressive, introverted, hyper, shy, loving, stand-offish, annoyed, open-hearted and more parts of me are all okay here at Jubilee. From that acceptance I have opened to… join the Jubilee! Singers, dance in Barrie Barton’s Community Dance Projects, be very enthusiastic and expressive in the middle of some Sunday services, share my own song on a Sunday and even lead a Sunday service with lots of mistakes. Accepted.

I am an Ordained Interfaith Minister and Intuitive Spiritual Consultant. I facilitate a weekly A Course In Miracles discussion group in my home. I have clients in my home and over the phone weekly and in Cashiers, NC, monthly. I am again assisting Barrie’s current Community Dance Project. And I’m still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. My life is good and I want to support the Jubilee! Community with all I have to offer.

I have been a member of Jubilee! for eight years and participate in the Nurture Program Parent Team, the North Circle of Care, and the former ‘28801’ Neighborhood Team. My husband and I, Greg Goodman, are the proud parents of two sons, ages 10 and 13, and manage our own consulting practice specializing in geographic information. I have degrees in Landscape Architecture and worked as a coastal landscape ecologist at Louisiana State University (LSU) before establishing and directing the Louisiana Geographic Information Center at LSU. I was raised in Northern Virginia (before it was a mall) and developed my love of the mountains while spending summers with family in West Virginia and attending college in Blacksburg, VA.

June of 2005 found my cat Charlie and I pulling into Asheville, not knowing one person here, no place to live, and no job, looking for a new way of life, searching for "Pandora." Well, I found a beautiful place to live, I found a decent job and I began to establish myself in this new land.

It took 9 months to find Jubilee! and it was a slow start at first but it all changed when I took Pathways and then a Barrie Barton dance workshop. These classes allowed me to make connections with a few new friends. I then signed up for Barrie's next big production "Knock Knock". After a year of weekly rehearsals I realized that I was bonding with, not 45 new "friends," but 45 new "family members." It truly was an amazing experience and I now hold deep connection to all that participated. As for work, I currently am doing woodworking, mainly in the River Arts District. As for fun… you will find me cruising the mountain roads on my motorcycle, blazing remote trails to high vistas, flipping a fly rod in a trout stream or simply sitting on my deck at 3000 feet just taking it in. Did I find Pandora? I sure think so, I just love it here!
